Homework Policy Change

Starting this week, the entire third grade will implement a new policy. If  your child doesn’t have Thursday’s homework, he/she will walk 2 laps at recess for each homework assignment (math/reading) not turned in. For example, if math homework AND reading homework aren’t turned in, your child will walk 4 laps at recess.

Thanks for your support with this matter.  Homework is a PERFECT time to see what your child can master and what he/she does not understand. Let me know if your child has questions.

Math December 3-7

This week in Math we will be  working on multiplication and division  word problems, applying our knowledge to real world situations.  We are on the hunt  for key words that will  help us determine which operation to use.  We are identifying and describing  the relationship between multiplication and division specifically through the use of fact families.  Today we came to the conclusion that knowing learning one fact guarantees that you know three other facts for free.   “Learn one, get three free!”

Vocabulary:  product-answer to multiplication problem   3 X 4 = 12

factor– two numbers multiplied together

quotient– answer to division problem    45 /9=5

dividend– number of things dividing

divisor– number of groups

Due to the six weeks test there will be NO spelling test this week.

The Thanksgiving food drive starts next week.  Please help us fill the White Oak TAP pantry to assist families in White Oak in need of food.  Needed items include: canned meats, canned fruit and vegetables, canned soup with meat, spaghetti/ravioli, and boxed dinners.  Thanks to everyone for your generous donations!
