Third Graders are hard at work on designing their grand cities. On Tuesday, we received a call from our state governor, Mr. Rick Perry (aka Mr. Lobue). The children were assigned constructing companies (groups) and then chose their desired jobs (based on their skills and talents). Wednesday, we enjoyed two guest speakers: former White Oak mayor, Mr. Joe Carrington and an engineer from Longview, Mr. Camp. So far, children have decided what buildings they want in their cities (based on size of city), are discussing and viewing various shapes and layouts of buildings, and many have already started the blueprints of their cities.
Next week, students will actually start constructing their 3D Geometric City and creating city brochures. We need supplies for this. Please send in craft items such as rinsed out 1/2 pint milk cartons, rinse out food containers (such as yogurt, sour cream, etc.), markers, cardboard, toilet paper and paper towel rolls, ribbon, empty fruit snack, pop tart, or cereal boxes, play dough, leftover wall paper, city/state/travel brochures, appropriate magazines (travel would be perfect), and anything else your child could use on their 3D city or brochures.
Thanks so much for your help!

Due to the cooler weather forecast, we have decided to change our plans for THIS FRIDAY. We will NO LONGER be going to the Splash Pad. Instead we will be going to McWhorter Park in Longview off of Gilmer Road. The students still need their 3 drinks and sack lunch. Instead of a change of clothes, the students may bring ONE item for play…please no bats. They may bring a ball and glove. If you have any questions, please let the teacher know! Parents you are still welcome to come hang out with your child!!
On May 3rd, Primary will have visitors on campus for Grandparent’s Day. The Intermediate students will not be having lunch on campus. On this day, Third Grade will be going to the Splash Pad. We will leave at 9:20 and return to school around 1:00.
Your child will need several items for them to fully enjoy the day!
- 3 Drinks (only one soda, please)
- Sack Lunch (Paper bag works great!) If your child needs a lunch from the cafeteria please let his/her teacher know by Wednesday May 1st. The cafeteria would be happy to prepare a sack lunch for your child.
- Change of Dry Clothes
Please put your child’s name on every item he/she brings, including last name. We also ask the boys to wear a shirt with their swim trunks. Girls please wear a one piece with shorts or shorts and a t-shirt. Please no white shirts.
Parents are welcome to join their students at the Splash Pad for lunch. If you decide, please feel free to check your student out early with his/her teacher.
Thank you; if you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher.
The upcoming Early Release date has changed. We will have our Early Release on Tuesday, April 16th. This will be a training day for teachers. Five professional development classes will begin shortly after your children are dismissed. Because of the scheduled events, we are asking that parents NOT eat lunch with their child on the 16th.
Intermediate will release at 12:00.
